Mysterious anime shows with a deeper meening

I for one think that Jigoko Shoujo comes in this category. I haven't seen deathnote, but I think it can come in this category as well. What about Yugioh, sure it's a normal series but Bakura's ring and Pharoah's concept does make it all a bit mysterious and intriguing.

What shows do you like and could come in this category?

I'm pretty sure GAiNAX rules over this category with it's Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. (I'mma cut this super short, otherwise you'll get 50 page essays on each of them. Well, maybe 100 on TTGL.)

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a huge character study story, and also reflects on how human beings interact with eachother.

TTGL on the other hand, is all about the helixes.

And then there's the game Touhou, made by ZUN, which has it's strange references in the character's spell cards, and the characters themselves. However, most of them are done jokingly.
